Nurses Can Qualify For Union Scholarships

Nurses looking to further their careers in home and community-based care can apply for educational scholarships of up to $2,000 from the New York State Association of Health Care Providers, the union announced March 8.

The Edna A. Lauterbach scholarship, named after a pioneering nurse who campaigned for skilled nurses in the home-care industry, provides money that can be used for tuition, books, specialty training and education for nurses looking to enter or further themselves in that field.

Increased Demand for Home Care

“There is an incredible demand for nurses in the home-care industry,” said HCP President Phyllis A. Wang in a statement. “This Scholarship Fund helps those nurses who recognize the opportunities that exist in the growing home-care industry and who want to dedicate their careers to providing care in the home.”

She added that “an aging population and consumers who prefer to receive care at home” was increasing demand for home-care nurses.

Applications are due by June 1 and will be awarded in August, in time for this year’s fall semester. To learn more about the program and how to apply, go to www.ednascholarship.org. D.S.
