Color NYPD Blue Unions Green For Public Advocate
MARK GREEN: Gets police unions on rebound. The Detectives Endowment Association, the Lieutenants Benevolent Association and the Captains Endowment Association Sept. 22 endorsed Mark Green in the Sept. 29 Democratic Party run-off for Public Advocate.
All three initially backed Eric Gioia, who placed third in the Sept. 15 primary.
CEA President Roy Richter cited how Mr. Green took the time to personally serve food to the first responders after 9/11. “He was running in a mayoral primary September 11 and our members recall his courage and grace that day and the difficult days that followed,” he said. “He showed a real knowledge of what the city was going through and a real empathy about what our members were going through.”
‘Year of Accomplishment’
LBA President Tom Sullivan said, “Like so many New Yorkers, Mark’s a fighter and a survivor who doesn’t quit when the chips are down. So we’re endorsing him now because of his years of proven accomplishment and potential to do even more.”
Mr. Green, who is running against Bill de Blasio in the run-off election on Sept. 29, said, “As a life-long New Yorker, I know how important our police are to keeping our city safe from crime, and in this post-9/11 world, terrorism. Today’s endorsement like others is not based on the battles I merely ‘fought’ but what I got done, like getting organized crime out of the commercial carting industry and improved police-community relations.”
DEA President Michael J. Palladino said, “As [a] consumer advocate, Mark has always been there to help fight everything from successfully stopping home-improvement scams to working with us to get the mob out of the commercial carting industry.”
