The Detective Investigators' Association June 22 endorsed former Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Leslie Crocker Snyder in the upcoming election to succeed Robert M. Morgenthau as Manhattan District Attorney.
"As the police officers for the District Attorney, we see first-hand on a daily basis the critical role the DA plays in keeping our communities safe," said union president John Fleming. "Throughout her career, Judge Snyder has shown she possesses the integrity, leadership and understanding of the law to be a great District Attorney."
'Experienced Innovator'
Ms. Snyder has more than 35 years of experience in the criminal justice system. "She has a depth of experience no other candidate in the race can match," Mr. Fleming said. "As the first female prosecutor in the state to try homicide cases and to head the Sex Crimes Bureau, Judge Snyder has shown herself to be an innovator in her field."
Mr. Fleming's endorsement was also based on personal experience with Justice Snyder. "As a Detective with the Special Narcotics Prosecutor, I witnessed her preside over many high-level narcotics cases, and I personally admired her control of the courtroom and her empathy for the victim."
The DIA represents more than 300 District Attorney Investigators in all five boroughs and the Special Narcotics Prosecutor.
Ms. Snyder also has the support of numerous other law-enforcement unions. T.H.
