To the Editor: The issues I'm bringing up have to do with TWU Local 100's elections, and this will be printed after the ballots are in. It will have no impact on the election for that reason, but I think these issues are so important that they still need to be brought up. More ... Richard Ferro takes issue (June 26 letter) with what I said (June 12 letter) regarding a police officer confronting an armed individual who is not posing an imminent threat to that officer. More ... To the Editor: On Aug. 18, 2007 the FDNY lost two brave firefighters and nearly 100 others who were forced to evacuate the toxic, high-rise Deutsche Bank Building by jumping onto a scaffold enveloping the building. If not for that scaffold, we would likely be speaking of the deaths of more than 100 New York City firefighters that day. More ... To the Editor: In my opinion, the recent agreement between the United Federation of Teachers and the city is Tier 5 despite what the UFT says. It decreases benefits for new UFT employees, pension and otherwise. It also decreases the TDA fixed interest rate for all UFT employees. More ... To The Editor: I have read with great disgust Mayor Bloomberg's outspoken support of Governor Paterson's ill-advised veto of the police and fire Tier 2 pension continuation. Many years ago when Tier 3 was created, a prudent decision was made by the Legislature to exempt police and fire and leave them in Tier 2. More ... |
