Bookkeeper Positions Open in City Agencies
Apply by June 23 For Job Starting At $32G; Written Test Oct. 17
Require 30 College Credits Or H.S. Diploma Plus 2 Years' Experience
The city is hiring Bookkeepers to perform computations of varying degrees of difficulty related to financial records, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services announced. The starting salary is $32,345. The application fee is $35. The deadline to apply is June 23. The multiple-choice test is expected to be held on Oct. 17, 2009. Residency Rules Vary Applicants might need to be residents of the city within 90 days of the date when they are appointed to this position. Since residency requirements vary by title, appointing agency and length of service, consult the appointing agency's personnel office at the time of your interview to find out if city residency is required. Applicants must be able to speak English. In order to qualify, an application must have these three things by the last day of the application period: completion of 30 semester credits, including six credits in accounting, from an accredited college or university; or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a state's Department of Education or a recognized accrediting organization, and two years of satisfactory full-time bookkeeping experience. Alternatively, a satisfactory combination of education and/or experience equivalent to either of the first two requirements is needed. College education may be substituted for experience on the basis that 15 semester credits from an accredited college may be substituted for each year of required experience. All candidates, however, must have a high school diploma or its educational equivalent, and either six credits in accounting from an accredited college or six months of experience. Applications will be accepted online at the DCAS Web site at www.nyc.gov/examsforjobs by following the onscreen prompts. Applications may also be mailed to the DCAS Applications Unit, 1 Centre Street, 14th Floor, New York, NY 10007. DCAS will not accept applications in person. During the same period, applications are also being accepted for Bookkeepers for the Health and Hospitals Corporation. Applicants will take only one exam in one session, but they must apply separately for the HHC test and pay a separate $35 fee in order to be considered for HHC's hiring list. The job requirements are similar, but, in order to work for HHC, applicants must be city residents. |
