To The Editor: On behalf of the members of Local 1549, thank you for your front-page article that appeared in the May 29 issue on the plight of 400 Police Administrative Aides, Senior Police Administrative Aides and clerical workers employed at the NYPD whose jobs Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly have scheduled for the chopping block. More ... To The Editor: The Mayor, a man I once admired, has a budget problem, so he falls back to the standard management maneuver: cut staff. More ... To The Editor: I have a suggestion that can help save some money in the short term for the city by accelerating the current attrition rate without the use of buyouts, while at the same time fixing a pension problem in Tier 4. To The Editor: I was very disappointed to see remarks from UFA President Steve Cassidy in your May 22 issue that inaccurately describe the responsibilities and accomplishments of chief officers in the Fire Department. Mr. Cassidy is wrong when he says chief officers do not save lives. They do, and they have on many occasions in the 145-year history of this department. More ... To The Editor: What you do to others today will affect you tomorrow. That is the vicious circle of turning your head and looking the other way instead of fighting discrimination. The New Haven, Connecticut Fire Department promotional exam is a no-win situation. More than 200 years of discrimination does not fix itself in 10 or even 50 years. More ... |
