EMS Lieutenant Arrested For Gunplay in Queens

An Emergency Medical Service Lieutenant was arrested for firing a BB gun at Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians at his Brooklyn base, the Department of Investigation announced Feb. 24.

The DOI alleged that Lieut. Leonard Tiberi fired his BB gun Feb. 9 at other EMS responders at his station on East 83rd St. in Brooklyn. He hit several boxes and walls; no injuries were reported.

Lieutenant Tiberi faces charges of Prohibited Use of Weapons, Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree and Reckless Endangerment in the Second Degree, which carry a sentence of up to a year in prison. DOI said he was also charged with Selling or Possessing Air Pistols and Air Rifles, an Administrative Code violation, which carries a $50 fine, 30 days in prison or both.

DOI Commissioner Rose Gill Hearn in a statement called it a "dangerous and foolish act." A.P.
