Death Suit An Outrage
      To The Editor: I just read the article that Sherita Sears, the widow of Probationary Firefighter Jamel Sears, who collapsed and died while training at the Fire Academy, is suing the city for wrongful death in the amount of $10 million. If that wasn't bad enough, the basis of the claim stems from a racism accusation.

      To The Editor: Re: Your Feb. 20 article, "IBO (Independent Budget Office) Weighs Savings," please be advised that the IBO report considers, among many things, severe reductions in benefits for the 271,974 retirees currently receiving benefits from the city.

      To The Editor: As a candidate for City Council, it is my strong belief that elected officials should welcome scrutiny and invite dialogue. My public service to Lower Manhattan, in a variety of capacities, dates back to 1981. This experience has bought with it the privilege of having direct contact with virtually every city agency.

A Costly Promotion
      To The Editor: I was recently called from the promotion list for Computer Systems Manager. I was told that I would be appointed in place even though my agency has more than 50 provisionals in that title. My salary would remain the same since I just received a District Council 37 contractual raise.
