Need Bachelor's Degree And 3.0 GPA Or Some Experience in Field The Internal Revenue Service is hiring qualified Revenue Officers for positions in its city and White Plains offices. Candidates must apply by Feb. 20. The salary varies by geographic area, but the range is $38,177 to $44,976 per year. Hundreds of jobs nationwide are expected to be filled. Positions are open in Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx, Harlem and White Plains. Work is usually con- fined to a local office, but overnight travel may be required. Recruits must be U.S. citizens and have a bachelor's degree with a 3.0 grade point average or higher, or 3.5 or higher in their major. Alternatively, equivalent work experience or a combination of education and related work experience, such as evaluating assets, equity and credit; collecting delinquent payments; or counseling individuals on tax-filing and paying obligations may qualify a person for the job. "We're looking for individuals interested in a challenging career with excellent benefits, training and strong growth potential," IRS spokesman Kevin McKeon said. Men born after Dec. 31, 1959 are required to have filed their Selective Service Registration. Primary Job Duties Revenue Officers are trained in both tax law and techniques necessary for the collection of delinquent taxes and overdue tax returns. Duties include conducting research, interviews, investigations and analysis of financial information for assigned cases, often at the taxpayer's home or business. Each officer will be assigned an inventory of cases, which provides the opportunity for work on varied situations with different types of taxpayers. Revenue Officers also counsel taxpayers on their obligations, determine how they can best resolve their delinquencies, and ensure their rights are protected.
