EX-TOP COP DENIES FELONY CHARGES: Former Police Commissioner and Correction Commissioner Bernard B. Kerik (right) exits Federal courthouse in White Plains Dec. 29 after pleading not guilty to new charges of falsifying income-tax records that the U.S. Attorney's Office brought under a superseding indictment. Earlier charges that have been pending against him since late 2007 include tax evasion, improperly accepting financial assistance from individuals looking to do business with the city while he was a top official in the Giuliani administration, and later lying to the Federal Government about those activities while being considered for positions including Secretary of U.S. Homeland Security. He was accompanied to court by his attorney, Robert Tirschwell.
