The Seats of Discontent Hopefully the Transit Authority and the City of New York view the recommendation for removing seats in subway cars as being the ridiculous suggestion that it is. The citizens of New York, adjoining areas, and the thousands of tourists who use the transportation system are not cattle. They are paying customers in a system that has previously prided itself on providing quality services to the public. The seat-removal idea makes no provisions for the needs of senior citizens, pregnant women, physically challenged persons, and others who are just exhausted and need to sit for a few minutes. The planners at the Transit Authority need to find real solutions to developing problems.
