Late Fireman Among Promotees


A Firefighter killed last year at the Deutsche Bank building fire was posthumously promoted to Lieutenant June 19 during a Fire Department promotion ceremony at the Fire Academy on Randall's Island.

FIGHTING LIKE HELL FOR THE LIVING: Joseph Graffagnino Sr. (left), whose firefighter son was killed at last year's Deutsche Bank building fire, led a march June 21 with firefighters and elected officials for safer working conditions at construction and demolition sites from the building at 130 Liberty St. to City Hall.

Joseph Graffagnino had already passed the promotion exam before he was killed along with Firefighter Robert Beddia last August.

Byrnes New Chief Fire Marshal

At the event, Robert G. Byrnes assumed the rule of Chief Fire Marshal, with John D. Lynn as Assistant Chief Fire Marshal. Chief Byrnes replaces Louis Garcia, who retired.

The new Captains are Daniel J. Murray, Charles J. Ehni, James H. McCabe, Michael J. Quevedo, Kevin H. Woods, Steven G. Gentiluomo, James B. Leach and Paul E. Nugent.

Vincent Palmieri and Stephen J. O'Keefe became Supervising Fire Marshals.

The new Lieutenants are Stephen R. Cross, Glenn R. Griffin, Robert J. Cuollo Jr., Daniel C. Browne, Daniel C. O'Shea, Robert L. Mallien, Stephen P. Duffy, Jerald A. Perillo, John M. Flanagan, Santo F. Ciccarello Jr., Brian J. Barto, Chris S. Smith, Andrew J. Mackenzie, Thomas J. Lofberg, John D. Lopez Jr., Mark Levens, Anthony Castagna, Rocco J. Dimieri Jr., Thomas V. Madonna, Kenneth P. Kearns and Robert McKeefrey.
