Transit Contractor Guilty of Prevailing Wage Violations

A supervisor for a subcontractor working for both the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey pleaded guilty June 18 to failing to pay prevailing wages to workers.

John Mari of Atlas Electric Contractors admitted in Manhattan Supreme Court to underpaying six workers by $211,092 between the years of 2005 and 2007 and falsely stating that workers had been paid prevailing wages.

Mr. Mari will provide the workers with back pay, according to the Manhattan District Attorney's Office.

Atlas Electric Contractors did electrical work at the Chambers St. station on the west side IRT in lower Manhattan, and on the Air Train in the Jamaica section of Queens.
