Firefighter, EMS Upgrades

The Fire Department May 8 promoted 21 firefighters and Emergency Medical Service responders during a ceremony at the Fire Academy at Randall's Island, including the induction of a new EMS Division Chief and four new Battalion Chiefs.

THE NEW COMMANDERS: The Fire Department promoted fire and Emergency Medical Service officers in a joint ceremony at the department's Academy on Randall's Island. 'Few people understand the beauty of conquering fear better than the members of this department,' Commissioner Nicholas Scoppetta said.

"Your number one mission is to make sure all your members go home safely," Chief of Department Salvatore Cassano told the promotees. "It's not an easy job, but it can be very gratifying."

Michael Fitton is the new Division Chief and the new Battalion Chiefs are James G. Doherty, Robert C. Ginley, Kenneth M. Stefanak and Steven P. Fitzgerald.

Nancy Gilligan was promoted to EMS Captain.

The 15 new Fire Lieutenants are Kenneth G. Quinn, Ernest M. Ehlberg Jr., Michael P. Brodbeck, Domenic Zito, Joseph G. Gildea, Philip Senra, Russell W. Ridky, Vincent M. Lanzante, William P. O'Leary, Thomas O'Leary, William N. Fanos, Gary D. Delaraba Jr., James W. Reilly, Craig D. Gobbo and Nicholas S. Pinto.

In addition, Jorge Maldonado was promoted to Provisional Marine Engineer.
