URBAN PARK RANGER JOBS NOW AVAILABLE

Engineer Titles And Computer Manager Open; No Written Test For City Ranger Posts Paying $30G

Filing is now open for an evaluation leading to Urban Park Ranger jobs with the Parks Department, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services said.

The starting salary is $30,378. There is a $35 filing fee. Applications must be submitted by April 22.

That is also the last day to file for the following open-competitive titles: Certified IT Administrator (Database), Certified IT Developer (Applications), and the engineer series, which includes Chemical Engineer, Civil Engineer, Electrical Engineer, Environmental Engineer, and Mechanical Engineer.

Applicants for Urban Park Ranger must have 60 college credits or one year of experience in law enforcement, code enforcement, security, ecology, or environmental instruction. Applicants using experience to qualify must have a high school diploma.

To be hired, candidates must be U.S. citizens and at least 21 years old. Once hired, Urban Park Rangers have to be city residents. At the time of appointment, candidates must also be U.S. citizens and have no record of convictions for any felony or serious offense against public safety.

Rangers also must have a valid New York State driver's license without any serious moving violations, license suspensions, or accident record. They need to pass a drug screening and must meet specified medical requirements.

Judged on Background

There is no written test for Urban Park Ranger. Instead, applicants will be evaluated on their education and work experience. Points will be awarded for additional college study, full-time military duty, or qualifying work experience beyond the minimum requirements.

Urban Park Rangers patrol city parks, performing crowd-control functions and enforcing park rules and health and sanitary codes. They also issue summonses and make arrests. In addition, Rangers provide educational services tours, lectures, field trips and conferences. They may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Individuals can apply on-line by going to the DCAS Online Application System at www.nyc.gov/examsforjobs. At the site, persons should follow the on-screen application instructions for electronically submitting their application and filing fee.

Candidates can also file via the mail by filling out the required forms and sending them to: DCAS Application Unit, 1 Centre St., 14th Floor, New York, N.Y. 10007. DCAS will not accept applications in person.
