SPIRIT LIVES ON:

Close to 200 police officers, including Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Patrick J. Lynch (second from right) gathered early on the morning of Feb. 26 to mark the 20th anniversary of the murder of Police Officer Edward Byrne at the site in South Jamaica. Officer Byrne was killed on the order of a jailed drug dealer while he guarded the home of a witness who was to testify against a notorious Queens crack gang. His assassination sparked a concerted effort by the NYPD against crack dealers throughout the five boroughs.
