Local 237 Resurgent To the Editor: Eunice Rodriguez has her opinion and is entitled to freely voice her own point of view (Jan. 11 letter). However, her opinion does not change the fact that since my appointment as president of Teamsters Local 237, our members have enjoyed a period of great success. During this past year, we have come together as a family. We have met challenges and thrived because of our unity and the cohesion of purpose that only a true family can call its own. I am as proud of the work we have accomplished as I am of the great efforts we are making to engineer a more-prosperous future for all of our members. In less than a year as president, I have revitalized our involvement in the public-housing movement, assuring that the more-than 8,000 members of ours who work or live at New York City Housing Authority facilities receive the support they deserve. When members of Local 237 who work as School Safety Officers were unjustly accused of misconduct, I was the first to come to their defense because as president, I swore to keep their interests safe just as they keep our schools and children safe. I have also led the charge to increase the availability of affordable housing and am working toward instituting a program that would provide affordable child-care for all of our members. And Local 237 has seen remarkable success in forging a path to recovery for homeowners affected by the subprime mortgage crisis. During my tenure, our members have been able to enjoy an unparalleled range of benefits and services contributing to an enhanced quality of life for all of our members. As president of Teamsters Local 237, it is my honor to carry the flag of our great union and fight for the best interests of our members. Through astounding dedication, incredible perseverance and continued support, this union has reinvented itself as a leading advocate for the labor community; and that is a fact that no opinion can deny.
