Maintainer Jobs with Bridge and Tunnels Open Filing Jan. 22

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority Bridges and Tunnels will open filing Jan. 22 for the Maintainer exam to be given on April 26.

Level 1 Maintainers earn a salary of $37,817 in their first year with benefits, pension, paid vacation and holidays. Applicants must be 21 years old. They must have two years of full-time satisfactory work experience in mechanical or electrical repair, maintenance or installation.

Experience Needed

They must also, an MTA statement said, have "one year of full-time satisfactory experience, in addition to graduation from a trade or technical school, or vocational high school, with a major course of study totaling 600 hours in one or more of the following areas: electrical, mechanical, automotive, welding, carpentry, machinist work, or a closely-related field, approved by a state's Department of Education or comparable governmental agency."

In addition to welding, cleaning facilities and painting and installing signs, Maintainers are responsible for the general upkeep of buildings, bridges and tunnels.
