Indict Two Cops Who Allegedly Assaulted Motorist and Passerby A Bronx grand jury Oct. 27 indicted two off-duty Police Officers who allegedly assaulted a motorist and a Good Samaritan during a traffic dispute. Michelle Anglin, 37, and Kollen Robinson, 24, were charged with two counts of second-degree assault and two counts of official misconduct after an Aug. 15 beating caused a man to need 25 staples to close three wounds in his head. If convicted on both counts, the NYPD officers face up to 16 years in jail. Both of them were freed on bail after appearing before Bronx Supreme Court Justice John Byrne. 'Know Who You're Messing With?' Officers Anglin and Robinson are accused of beating Marlon Smith, 25, with a baton and ultimately a pistol during a traffic dispute at the corner of East 218th St. and White Plains Rd. The argument started over an open door in Mr. Smith's car, but quickly escalated, with one of the women allegedly saying, "Do you know who you are f----ing with? We are the police." Mr. Smith tried to fight back, at one point grabbing the baton, but Officer Anglin allegedly beat him in the head with a gun until one of the women pointed a gun at his face, according to a criminal complaint. Cyle Perry-Osby, a passer-by, was also beaten when he tried to stop the attack. The two officers face official misconduct charges because they failed to obtain medical care for the injured men and did not report the incident to their superiors in the NYPD. The defendants fled the scene after the incident, according to the Bronx District Attorney Robert T. Johnson. The NYPD stripped them of their gun and badge after the incident and they remain on modified duty. In addition to his head injuries, Mr. Smith suffered swelling to his face, substantial pain in his neck and shoulders. Mr. Perry-Osby, who was hit in the head with a baton, was treated for pain and continues to receive medication for migraine headaches. |
