Honor Life-Saving Cops, With Beneficiary Watching; 'Living Proof' of Job's Value
Dets. David Binder and Joseph Delre and Police Officer Daniel Donaldson were reunited Oct. 30 with a man whose life they saved in February by shocking him back to life using a defibrillator.

"Nine times out of 10 a police officer helps someone and you never see them again," said Detective Binder said during the awards ceremony for first-responders. "It's a job well done and we are happy to see him. He's living proof."
Grateful for the Save
The three officers were working security for the Giants' Super Bowl parade in Manhattan when they saw Marc Francois lying on the sidewalk lifeless after suffering cardiac arrest. "I died, but thanks to these police officers who saved my life, I'm here today to show gratitude," he said after the awards ceremony at Police Headquarters.
The three police officers were honored at the NYPD First Responder Awards for their use of a defibrillator to shock Mr. Francois three times before he came back to life. They were among 57 Police Officers and Auxiliary Police Officers who were honored with the yearly award.
Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly said to family members and recipients, "Your skill, coupled with the life-saving technology that we now have, has produced very impressive results."
"These stories exemplify what our officers can achieve with the best training and equipment," he said. "The individuals honored today represent all ranks from Auxiliary Police Officer to Chief Surgeon."
