History Not on Dems' Side

To the Editor:

Once again Michael Gorman in trying to attack the Republicans and defend his choice for U.S. President has twisted the historic facts (Sept. 19 issue). Mike, history is history and it cannot be ignored or rewritten by you. You insult the intelligence of the readers of this paper with your asinine rhetoric.

When Obama talks about change, he doesn't mean you can go around changing history. In your latest silly attack on the Republican nominees, you raise "Jim Crow" and imply that Republicans favored and even had a part in the havoc these laws brought upon blacks in this country. Shame on you. I know you have no interest in facts, but let me remind you of a few anyway.

For one, Abraham Lincoln, who abolished slavery in this country, was a Republican. Secondly, those that suffered under the plight of "Jim Crow" did so in states that were controlled not by Republicans, but by Democrats. Check it out — these are facts.

So Mike, you can go on and on with your politically biased misinformation, but let me remind you what a great Republican — Abraham Lincoln — once said: "You can fool some of the people some of the time. You may even fool all of the people some of the time. But you will never fool all the people all of the time."
