More ... To the Editor: All the talk of pay raises going through and successful negotiations between the city and unions got me to thinking. The Department of Environmental Protection Sewage Treatment Workers have been working without a contract for more than six years now. More ... To the Editor: Despite some opinions to the contrary, Transport Workers Union Local 100 should never pledge "not to strike" in order to restore dues check-off. To make such a pledge would hamstring Local 100 in any future negotiations. All the leverage would be with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. More ... To the Editor: Barack Obama's principal opponent in the presidential campaign will probably not be John McCain; it will be racism. Even with all the progress since the civil rights legislation of the 1960s, America still has many of the residual effects of the "racist disease" that infected our nation since the beginning.
