Analyzing Hillary

Analyzing Hillary

To the Editor:

Back in the mid-1970s, an NYPD Psychologist predicted that, as women got more political power, they would have special difficulties in our competitive workplace because many haven't learned to accept defeat.

His theory was that while most men played sports and learned that losing is just part of life and something one has to accept, many women (at that time) hadn't been forced to learn to lose gracefully on the athletic field. He said that he was seeing some women who were devastated by relatively minor setbacks (especially at work) to the point where they couldn't brush it off and move on.

Just male chauvinist balderdash? I think not. Hillary Clinton's behavior during the campaign, and especially after her defeat, arguably illustrates the insight and accuracy of the professor's prediction.

It's pretty clear that Clinton simply cannot accept defeat, and she will have a very difficult time psychologically picking up the pieces. While she doesn't represent most women, she certainly has a large number of women telling her not to give up - even though it's really over.

I think the campaign has passed Yogi Berra's ultimate test ("While it's not over 'til it's over, this one is really over"), and the proverbial "fat lady" has sung! Hopefully, Clinton's behavior won't damage the Democratic Party in the upcoming national election.
