A story in last week's issue about a congressional hearing sparked by the Sean Bell case stated that a May 2 incident in which Chief Douglas Zeigler, the NYPD's highest-ranking black officer, was confronted by two Police Officers, escalated after "the officers drew their guns when they saw Chief Zeigler's firearm." This description was based on a statement by U.S. Rep. Gregory Meeks at the May 12 hearing that the two officers "drew their weapons," a claim that had also been made a day earlier by retired NYPD Capt. Eric Adams.

A Police Department spokesman said last week, however, that those claims are erroneous: no weapons were drawn by the responding officers. One of them has been placed on modified duty for allegedly being discourteous in his dealings with Chief Zeigler.

The treasurer of the Court Officers' Benevolent Association of Nassau County is Matt Raber, contrary to what was reported last week.
