Starting Salary $39G; Need College Degree And Courses in Field; No Residency Requirement; Investigative Duties Key Element of Position

 

The Administration for Children's Services is accepting applications for Child Protective Specialists on an ongoing basis.

The starting salary is $39,568, goes to $42,972 after 6 months, and then to $45,822 after 18 months. Employees are also eligible for overtime earnings and night differential pay. There is no residency requirement.

Candidates who speak and/or write Spanish, Russian, Albanian, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, French, Haitian Creole, Korean, Polish, Urdu and African languages are encouraged to apply.

Job Requirements

To qualify for Child Protective Specialist, candidates must have a bachelor's degree with 24 credits in one or a combination of the following areas: social work, psychology, sociology, human services, criminal justice, education (including early childhood), nursing, or cultural anthropology. Candidates must have at least 12 credits in one discipline. Candidates must demonstrate English-language proficiency and basic typing skill, and must pass a drug-screening test.

Child Protective Specialists investigate allegations of child neglect and/or abuse received by the Administration for Children's Services. They may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.

Duties include: completing field visits to investigate allegations of abuse and/or neglect; interviewing family members and other contacts to assess child safety; evaluating the risk of future abuse or neglect; providing families with educational and other resources to help avert future abuse; removing children from their homes for placement into protective custody or foster care.

Court-Related Duties

In addition, they must maintain accurate and up-to-date computerized records of all cases, and may be required to file legal petitions and testify in Family Court and other legal proceedings.
