Toussaint Mgmt. Tool

To the Editor:

As a transit worker and dues-paying member in good standing of Transport Workers Union Local 100, I was completely shocked to read your article "TWU Joins MTA Against Halt of Health Payouts" (Jan. 25 issue).

TWU Local 100 siding with management against its own members represents a new low in the annals of the labor movement.

Is the Roger Toussaint who ordered this shameful action the same Roger Toussaint who during his campaign to get the members to ratify the current contract, which included the controversial 1.5 percent for health coverage, said that 1.5 percent was the best he could do for now but that he'd try and get it taken out of the next contract?

Under Roger Toussaint, Local 100 has become a tool of management.

We should never forget that Mike Quill gave his life so that we could have employer-paid health coverage - and Roger Toussaint gave it away!

JOSEPH PASSARETTI
