      To the Editor: I have been following the situation with my friend and very strong advocate for union democracy at District Council 37 Local 372, Tony Ferina, and I must say the behavior of President Veronica Montgomery-Costa and her election committee, which has been in place for the past six years, does not surprise me one bit.

      To the Editor: Your eloquent editorial memorial to Veronica Johannesen (Dec. 28 issue) will, I am sure, strike a chord with many readers. I got to know her about eight years ago when I was supporting the reformers at DC 37, and I still have a CD which she copied for me that included hundreds of carefully scanned news articles about labor issues.

Every year, throughout our country, there are thousands of these illegal criminals arrested for, and convicted of, bank robbery, murder, rape and other serious and minor crimes.

DRIVING DOWN WAGES
      To the Editor: The emotion-laden and insulting letter of Mike Gimbel is filled with ignorance and lack of perception about the immigration problem. First of all, if employers did not have at their disposal this massive wave of illegal immigrants, they would be forced to do what they have historically done when they experienced difficulties in attracting workers.

      To the Editor: William C. Thompson, Jr., Comptroller, recently published the City's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) for the Fiscal Year ended June 30, 2007. The CAFR presents a standardized financial reporting method for public-sector entities including public-retirement systems.
