STATE SECURITY JOBS OPEN UNTIL DEC. 24

Trainee Pay Is $26G; Need A H.S. Diploma; Reach $30,902 After Year; Written Test Set Feb. 9

Filing is open until Dec. 24 for exams leading to Security Services Assistant jobs and Safety and Security Officer Trainee positions, the state Department of Civil Service said.

The written tests for both positions are scheduled for Feb. 9. The starting pay for Security Services Assistant is $21,929.

Job Requirements

The beginning salary for Safety and Security Officer Trainee is $26,011. After the one-year traineeship, including Academy Training, appointees will be advanced to the full journey level, where starting pay is $30,902, without further examination.

Individuals assigned to work in the five boroughs or in Nassau, Suffolk, Rockland, or Westchester counties will receive an additional $1,200 annual downstate adjustment.

To qualify for Security Services Assistant, by the date of the written test candidates must have a security guard photo identification issued by the New York State Department of State. Applicants must put their ID number, the date it was first issued and when it expires on their application. No work experience is required.

Safety Trainee Details

To apply for Safety and Security Officer Trainee, by the date of the written exam candidates must have a high school diploma or GED. There is no further education or work-related requirement.

The written exam for that title will test candidates' abilities to apply written information in a safety and security setting, follow directions by using maps, and prepare, understand and interpret written material.

The positions exist at various locations around the state with the State University system, Workers' Compensation Board, the Office of General Services, and the New York State Veterans' Home at Oxford, according to the exam notice. The largest number of jobs and vacancies are in the strike but believed they had State University system at Brooklyn, Albany, and Stony Brook, the state said.

The Safety and Security Officer Trainee positions are available in the Office of Mental Health, Office of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, and the Department of Health.

The written exam for that title will gauge candidates' skills in applying written information in a safety and security setting, and preparing, understanding, and interpreting written material, graphs, charts and diagrams.

For both security titles, there is no state residency requirement, but candidates must be at least 18 years old and have a valid New York State driver's license at the time of appointment. There is a $20 filing fee. Applicants also must pass a drug and alcohol screening and a medical evaluation.
