COLLECTING AGENT JOB FILING THROUGH OCT. 23 The starting salary is $17.31 an hour, which rises in increments to $24.73 an hour after four years. There is no written or practical exam. Candidates will be rated based on their work-related education and experience. Prior Armed Work By the last day of filing, candidates must have three years of full-time experience as an armed armored car guard, armed security guard, armed peace officer, or armed military police officer. Individuals can also apply with two years of armed guard experience and with an additional two years as an unarmed guard. The following are not acceptable types of experience: bail-bond investigator, bodyguard, chauffeur, or private investigator. Candidates are responsible for determining whether or not they meet the qualification requirements for the exam. There is a $40 application fee. At the time of appointment, candidates must have a valid handgun license issued by the New York Police Department. The license must be maintained while employed, DCAS said. New hires also must have a Class B commercial driver's license with an airbrake endorsement or CDL learner's permit with no airbrake restrictions. In addition, basic medical guidelines have been established for the position. Candidates must also pass a drug screening. City residency, however, is not required. Graded on Background Candidates' exam scores will be determined by an experience evaluation. Individuals who meet the basic requirements will receive 70 points. Candidates with an additional three years' experience will get an extra 20 points. Individuals with the specialized driver's license will receive an additional 10 points. Part-time work will be credited on a pro-rated basis. Collecting Agents transport and deliver revenue and fares from various subways and other NYC Transit facilities. Agents must keep records, make reports, serve as armed revenue guards, and drive armored trucks. They may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
