Raymond W. Kelly, left, listened as former U.S. Secretary of
Homeland Security Thomas J. Ridge addressed a group of city
school security officials at 1 Police Plaza on Sept. 19. The
NYPD's School Security Conference included presentations from
national law-enforcement officials who have responded to
school shootings. The official stressed the importance of
communication and having emergency plans in place.
