Urban Fellows Program Open To Collegians

The city's testing agency is currently accepting applications for the Urban Fellows Program, which places top college graduates in different city departments.

Applications for the highly-competitive positions must be received by 5 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, the Department of Citywide Administrative Services said. The program merges full-time city employment with a comprehensive seminar series dealing with city government and contemporary urban issues.

Who's Eligible

The fellowships are available to individuals who graduated college in the spring of 2006 and 2007 or who expect to finish by next spring. Finalists will be called to interviews in the city in mid-March.

Only 25 fellowships are offered through a competitive selection process. Final decisions will be rendered by mid-April, DCAS said. The nine-month fellowships will start Sept. 2, 2008 and ends May 15, 2009. Those selected will be paid a $25,000 stipend, which includes a choice of paid health insurance plans. The program does not provide financial aid, housing, or scholarships for study.

For more information, call 311 or 212-NEW-YORK. Application forms are available at www.nyc.gov/fellowships.
