Who's Spinning Who? To the Editor: Thomas was at the Maintenance of Way meeting on May 25 with his entourage from the Power Division who were all politically opposed to President Toussaint's slate in the last election. All in all, a large majority of the more-than 60 officers, stewards and executive board members at the meeting were on President Toussaint's opposition slate. At the meeting, not one officer from Track or any other division stood up and mentioned anything about Track Inspectors or any other workers doing regular maintenance or track inspections before the stand-downs were complete or during the moratorium. Thomas Creegan would lead all to believe that President Toussaint has a crystal ball in his pocket as to whether the work was actually done. I believe that Thomas is lying, for if the members were doing this type of work, then he as an officer of the union should have stopped it, reported it and documented it. That did not happen. Mr. Creegan spins even more when he states, "At a Local 100 staff meeting on May 21, 2007 Toussaint admitted that he can not even get the track safety bill out of legislation." What really was reported was that Senate Majority Leader Joe Bruno is not allowing the bills that were passed by the Assembly to go to the Governor's desk to be passed or rejected because of political differences that they are currently having. Again he comes to his own conclusions without being present at the staff meeting or providing any facts. This is an individual who goes on hearsay rather than facts. ELADIO DIAZ, Staff Representative, Maintenance of Way Editor's note: Mr. Diaz is an executive board member of Transport Workers' Union Local 100. | |||||
