Whitfield Slate Wins Big In CCA Elections

By REUVEN BLAU

The Correction Captains' Association May 21 overwhelmingly elected Ronald W. Whitfield president in a sweep for his entire slate over a group led by Keith James, 530 votes to 66.

RONALD W. WHITFIELD: An overwhelming victory.
Mr. Whitfield had been the union's first vice president since 1995 and was supported by it prior leader, Peter D. Meringolo, who retired in January.

'Humbled' by Support

"I am grateful that our members have taken time from their busy schedules and participated in our union's democratic process," Mr. Whitfield said in a statement released shortly after the ballots were tallied. "Their overwhelming support for me and my fellow board members is both gratifying and humbling."

Mr. Whitfield, who became a union officer in 1986 after his senior colleagues suggested he take his labor ideas further, vowed to continue the advancements made during Mr. Meringolo's tenure.

During that time, the CCA's lawyers have successfully defended scores of Captains brought up on serious disciplinary charges at the Office of Administrative Trials and Hearings.

The other candidates elected on Mr. Whitfield's slate were: Patrick Ferraiuolo, first vice president; Karen Coad-Rogers, second vice president; George A. Aufiero, treasurer; Guy Brown, secretary; Rodney Albury, financial secretary; William Inman, legislative chairman; Frank Soto, sergeant-at-arms. Their four-year terms begin July 1.
