NYC TV Takes Home the Gold At N.Y. Emmys

The city's television network, NYC TV, April 1 received seven New York Emmy Awards, with one program, "Secrets of New York" accounting for five of them.

Its showing put NYC TV in a tie for third in the competition among local TV stations, trailing only WNBC-TV and WPIX-TV. Mayor Bloomberg said the network, which replaced the old Crosswalks channel just four years ago, "has established itself as the leader in municipal television across the country."

Boost for Gov't TV

Paul Cosgrave, the Commissioner of the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications, said, "These latest awards re-affirm the ideal that government television can be engaging, informative, and well worth watching."

The winners for work on "Secrets of New York" were: Arick Wierson, Buboo Kakati and Harry Hunkele as writers of the Nov. 30, 2006 "Secrets of New York Composite"; Kari Loya as narrator of that program; Mr. Hunkele as producer and Mr. Wierson as executive producer of "Secrets of New York: Underground" that was broadcast that same day; Mr. Hunkele as editor of the Oct. 3, 2005 "Secrets of New York Composite"; and Roland LeBreton as art director and Jeffrey Watts, Larissa Starikova and Mayumi Sato as designers of the "Secrets of New York" programs of March 7, June 27 and Aug. 8 of last year.

An award for craft specialty went to Roberto Casey, the lead makeup artist for last year's 49th Annual New York Emmy Awards, and Trevor Scotland and William Morrison received one for the "Cool in Your Code" programs of April and May 2006.
