There He Goes Again To the Editor: Somehow "lesser-paid police officers" can blame the FDNY. (They could have taken the same offer. I'm not saying they should, but they could have.) Mr. Nichols doesn't think so. Lesser-paid sanitation workers "who save more lives than any other service" also have an ax to grind, notwithstanding the fact that a sanman on a two-man truck makes just about the same as a cop or fireman in base pay. He also has an issue with an FDNY member who is a volunteer in East Cupcake. Maybe he should check the rolls of the dozens of volunteer ambulance companies right here in the city as well as the other towns and counties nearby. I think he might find a few of his co-workers do it for free as well. The point I find most absurd is his offer to contribute more of his salary to a pension plan or the "generous health coverage." I suggest he not waste his time or energy pounding another union and devote it to making his lot, and that of his fellow EMS workers, better.
