She's No Anti-Semite

To the Editor:

I am responding to your column piece entitled For the Record in the March 9 edition.

The 2007-2009 "illuminating" elections are over. I was victorious! This insulting and disparaging characterization of my being an anti-Semite was disseminated in the campaign literature of the opposition and it dissolved with no merit. No one who has ever worked with me in the good faith of this organization would ever dare to make these accusations.

To each of the specific instances cited directly I respond:

1998 Chapter Election: I don't recall the detail but I know that an election committee had to have some involvement in this matter, and note with emphasis, I was victorious!

In the June '06 Delegate Resolution regarding Mitchell Feder, supported by the Local 375 Women's Organizing Committee, Brother Feder was directed, by the delegates (he so desperately wanted to lead) of our local to apologize to the sisters of this local and DC 37 Executive Director Lillian Roberts. He was also directed to seek sensitivity training. It took him six months to partially comply with the delegates' order after being prompted by the local's secretary.

In regards to the quote that appears in the Black History program, my intent was, is and continues to be an empowerment of the members; lifting them to new heights spiritually.

To every reader, duly note, if the story is to be fully told, the president of our local, Claude Fort, addressed the body's unrest over this issue the same night, within the Black History program, with an apology for any and all inappropriate or inconsiderate actions.

The election is over.

MICHELLE KELLER, 2nd Vice President, Local 375/DC 37
