Assault on a Cop

To the Editor:

Great work by the rookie cops, Patrick Lynch and Christine Schmidt, to nail that would-be cop killer, Danny Fernandez, after his attack on Officer Joseph Cho. Thank God that Officer Cho will reportedly be okay after suffering a fractured skull.

I don't think we've seen such an unprovoked attack on a uniformed police officer since the Black Liberation Army put its murderous plans into action from 1970-76 (some hold them responsible for the murders of as many as 13 police officers around the nation).

At first glance, this attack has the indicia of a gang member's attempt to impress his fellow gang members, i.e., "I'll come back with a cop's gun." If Fernandez needed a gun for robberies, as he has allegedly claimed, there are easier ways to obtain a gun in New York City than braining a cop to get one.

Fernandez is not telling the whole story.
