POLICE CLERICAL AIDE FILING UNTIL JAN. 23
The Department of Citywide Administrative Services is accepting applications until Jan. 23 for an exam leading to Police Administrative Aide positions. Filing is also open for four other hiring exams and six promotion tests. The open competitive jobs are: Carpenter, Auto Mechanic, Electronic Equipment Maintainer, and Transit Electro-Mechanical Maintainer. Analyst Promos The promotion positions are: Associate Education Analyst, Associate Staff Analyst, Associate Transit Management Analyst, Associate Transit Management Analyst (Operations), Auto Mechanic, and Transit Electro-Mechanical Maintainer Series. The starting salary for Police Administrative Aide is $27,277. The multiple-choice test is set for April 28. To qualify, by the last day of filing candidates must have a high school diploma and one year of full-time clerical experience. Various combinations of education and experience are also qualifying; individuals should consult the exam notice for a complete list. The exam will test candidates' skills in written comprehension and expression as well as memorization, and problem sensitivity. The test will also gauge candidates' abilities in deductive reasoning, information ordering, and basic math. Must Type 35 WPM Candidates who pass the written test will then be called to take a qualifying practical typing exam. For that test, candidates must be able to type accurately on a computer at a minimum speed of 35 words per minute. Police Administrative Aides perform clerical, typing, word-processing, and data-entry tasks. They handle confidential material and utilize manual automated office systems. They may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Individuals who speak a foreign language or American sign language may be selectively certified and given preferred consideration for positions requiring those skills. The starting pay for Carpenter is $39.25 an hour. The multiple-choice test is set for April 28. To qualify, by the day of filing candidates must have five years of experience as a Carpenter acquired within the last 10 years. Individuals with three years of work-related experience and training from an approved trade or vocational high school can also apply. Carpenters install, repair, and replace flooring, partitions, window frames and sashes, door frames, drop ceilings and the metal framing of walls. They work on boardwalks, fences and screens, playgrounds, parks, and school equipment. The exam will test candidates' abilities to use carpentry tools, and analyze plans and specifications, and gauge their knowledge of arithmetical computations. Separate filing is also open for jobs available in the Health and Hospitals Corporation. The starting salary for Auto Mechanic is $27.30 an hour. The multiple-choice test is scheduled for May 12. 5 Years in Field To qualify, by the last day of filing candidates must have five years of auto mechanic experience acquired within the last 15 years. At the time of appointment, candidates must have a Class B commercial driver's license or a learner's permit for that license. Candidates must pass a multiple-choice test and a practical exam. The written exam will gauge candidates' skills in the operating principles of internal combustion engine automotive components, transmissions, clutches, brakes, wheels, and tires. The test will also determine candidates' knowledge of diagnostic equipment and analysis of data, repair of motor vehicle components, accessories and systems, tools, safety practices, basic arithmetic, and reading comprehension. Individuals who pass the multiple-choice exam will be called to take the practical test, which will assess their abilities to: troubleshoot, adjust, diagnose, repair, and replace faulty automotive components.
