CORRECTION VSF LOSS

Correction VSF Loss

To the Editor:

I am a retired captain from the city Department of Correction. It is a shame that the city continues to destroy the Correction Department on the Variable Supplements Fund. It is amazing how they give us a benefit and then they take it away.

Why? Because we are a minority department? Yes, I am white and I never believed that the city discriminates against the Correction Department, but I was wrong. They do discriminate, and that is because most of the department is black, Hispanic and female.

They just feel that they can take anything away from the Correction Department because they won't fight for it, and, sorry to say, they are right. The fact that nobody is trying to negotiate payments from this Variable Supplements Fund and trying to fix this ridiculous problem is crazy. All the correction unions are doing absolutely nothing.

It is hard when you see Police Department and Fire Department retirees receiving a check for $12,000 on Dec. 15 and all retired correction personnel are receiving is letters stating that we are not receiving the benefit this year.

It is an absolute joke the way the city treats this department.
