THE CHIEF-LEADER welcomes letters from its readers for publication. A forum recently held at NYU (Nov. 2 issue) tried to discern why, among other things, "feminism" and "feminist" had taken on a negative connotation. Always eager to lend a helping hand, I hereby offer my thoughts on this topic. More ... I believe that the New York State Nurses Association's strength comes from being open, tolerant and united. In THE CHIEF-LEADER's Oct. 12 issue, NYSNA announced that Karen Ballard became the president-elect of the New York State Nurses Association by defeating Anne Bove with 55 percent of the vote. More ... The Rand Corporation has completed its six-month study and now says that with the possible exception of a very small number of officers in South Queens, Brooklyn and Staten Island, racial profiling is not a problem in the NYPD. The study did not attempt to explain why the use of force, such as a baton, occurred with greater frequency against blacks and Hispanics. More ... Kudos to Gene Russianoff of the Straphangers Campaign, the more-than 100 lawmakers and just about everyone except, of course, the leadership of TWU Local 100 (Roger Toussaint and MTA Board Member Ed Watt) for halting the fare hike. The public has been abandoned by this TWU leadership, but not by all the elected officers. More ... I felt compelled to respond to the collective letter to the editor written by Milton Lovett, Mitchell Feder, Martin Hollander, Stephan Benedict, Maurice Spreiregen, Marvin Greisman and Hilda Schneider in the Nov. 9 issue of THE CHIEF in response to Mike Gimbel's Oct. 26 letter. More ... Disparate news events are not necessarily so different, when politics plays with public service. A story in the Nov. 17 Daily News reported Mayor Michael R.
