TWU Re-Run For VP Just A Futile Drill

TWU Re-Run For VP Just A Futile Drill

The vote count for Vice President of Private Bus Lines at Transport Workers Union Local 100 came to an end on May 24, but the union still does not have someone to fill the position because the winner has already been promoted out of the bargaining unit.

Rod Bailey led comfortably in the initial election last December, but the contest had to be re-run when it was discovered that hundreds of potential voters in the division did not receive ballots.

The union received 113 new ballots in the re-run election last week, causing no change in the outcome. Because Mr. Bailey had been promoted to a management-level job in April, he is ineligible to be in Local 100 in any capacity.

"The executive board is going to have to decide what they are going to do about the vacancy," said Barbara Deinhardt, the neutral monitor in the election. A.P.
