Letters to the Editor: '372' Needs Mail-In Election
To the Editor:
      The article about the lack of a democratic election process in Local 372 was excellent (May 18 issue). The 2,000 members who signed the petitions for direct mail-in-ballots to vote for the officers of Local 372 are courageous and desperate for a change in a local which has hindered the votes of members now for 38 years, counting Charlie Hughes's time at the helm.

TALES OF TOUSSAINT
To the Editor:
      Meet the king of spin - Roger Toussaint (May 25 letter). He couldn't do all this spinning by himself. He has a $10,000-a-month Hollywood publicity agent at his side eagerly helping him along. First of all, the 4-1/2-day stand-down Toussaint refers to really amounted to only a 3- or 4-hour session for the average worker in which bosses re-read the rules.

FELLOWSHIP OF THE ROG
To the Editor:
      Why do the fanatical supporters of Roger Toussaint constantly inject race into every equation? The topic at hand is track safety, but John McCarthy (May 25 letter) is obviously trying to throw the reader's attention elsewhere by making an issue of workers' ethnicities.

TRUE FACTS AT TWU
To the Editor:
      This is in response to Percival Thomas's letter to the editor on May 25. Although eloquent, his letter is less than truthful. Mr. Thomas makes reference to when Mr. Toussaint was Track Safety Chairman, but what is interesting is that Mr. Thomas was hired as a Track Worker months after Toussaint was Track Chairman.
