THE CHIEF-LEADER welcomes letters from its readers for publication. <!-- Page Number: 88--> To the Editor: I knew and worked with Track Workers Danny Boggs and Marvin Franklin. Their premature, utterly unnecessary deaths anger me more than words can express. From September 1991 through December 2000, I served as an elected vice-chair of Local 100's Track Division Safety Committee, most of that time with sole responsibility for the night tour. More ... <!-- Page Number: 91--> To the Editor: Seven track workers died during Peter Kalikow's six-year tenure as Chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority Board. Had Kalikow worked to change the posture of NYC Transit to develop a culture which valued the safety and health of its employees, these deaths might not have occurred. More ... <!-- Page Number: 92--> To the Editor: After the two tragic fatalities, NYC Transit's response was to "retrain" all workers on the existing safety rules. It was reported in the media that Local 100 collaborated with NYC Transit in putting together these "safety stand-down" presentations. More ... <!-- Page Number: 96--> To the Editor: In response to the May 11 letter from Victor Maltsev: yes, it may be true that Lillian Roberts earns only 9.5 times more than the average District Council 37 member (plus, of course, various benefits), while the average CEO earns 175 times more than the average worker. More ... <!-- Page Number: 97--> To the Editor: In your May 11 issue, an article appeared on DC 37's lobbying efforts. My question is, what about DC 37's lobbying efforts here with the NYC Council and the residency issue? In July 2006, DC 37 struck a contract with the city containing a proviso for city support of a bill which would allow city employees to have the option to live outside city limits. More ... <!-- Page Number: 98--> To the Editor: It was good to hear PBA President Pat Lynch attack Rudy Giuliani's phony hero image (May 11 article). President Giuliani? Puhleeeeeze! Here's a presidential candidate who's not even a respectable person. He's narcissistic, manipulative, and a master of the double-cross. More ... Letters to the Editor RSS feed |
