CHILD PROTECTIVE POSTS, CASEWORKER JOBS OPEN The starting salary for Caseworker is $32,338. Starting pay for Child Protective Specialist is $39,568. The multiple-choice tests are scheduled for June 23. Applications must be submitted by April 24. Job Requirements To qualify for Caseworker, by the time of appointment candidates must have a bachelor's degree. City residency is not required. Caseworkers provide social services to recipients of public assistance. They determine eligibility for services such as food stamps and medical care. Caseworkers may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. To qualify for Child Protective Specialist, by Jan. 30 candidates must have had a bachelor's degree with 24 credits in one or a combination of the following areas: social work, psychology, sociology, human services, criminal justice, education, nursing, or cultural anthropology. Candidates must have at least 12 credits in one discipline. Again, it is not necessary to be a city resident. Child Protective Specialists investigate allegations of child neglect and/or abuse received by the Administration for Children's Services. They may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. What Test Covers The multiple-choice exams for both titles will test candidates' abilities in reading and comprehending written information and synthesizing data, such as using facts to fill out a form. The test will also likely include questions gauging candidates' skills in using a given set of rules or objectives to arrange information into the best and most appropriate order or sequence, as well as applying rules to a specific problem. Filing is also open until May 22 for a practical exam leading to Signal Maintainer jobs at New York City Transit. The starting pay is $26.35 an hour. Practical testing is expected to begin on Sept. 18. To qualify, by the last day of filing candidates must have two years of full-time experience as an electrician or an electronic technician at the journeyman level. Various other types of work-related education and experience are also considered qualifying; individuals should consult the exam notice for a complete list. The practical test may require candidates to perform tasks related to installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems. The passing score is 70 percent. Signal Maintainers install, inspect, alter and repair NYC Transit railroad signal systems. Appointees must complete a training course and an 18-month probationary period.
