      In January, New York City Transit announced its plans to hire consultants to provide the construction administration services for Phase One of the 2nd Avenue Subway Project. The scope of work and project overview have already been issued and a Request For Proposal (RFP) is in process. May 2007 is the anticipated contract award date.

BELL CASE NEGLIGENCE
To the Editor:
      Rev. Al Sharpton calls the police officers involved in the Sean Bell shooting murderers. A spokesman for the Detectives' union (DEA) calls these officers good Detectives who made a tragic but understandable mistake. Neither of these adversaries is objective or fair to either the shooting victims or the police officers who fired the 50 shots.

FIRE TEST IS FAIR
To the Editor:
      Your recent editorial about the written test for Firefighter omitted a central fact: the test was developed with input from hundreds of Firefighters and fire officers. They completed detailed surveys to help us identify the fundamental attributes of a successful Firefighter - abilities such as judgment, reasoning, facility with numbers, visualization, and teamwork.

EMT'S MISINFORMATION
To the Editor:
      I'm sure that this will be one of many letters in response to Jeff Nichols's poorly written, ill-willed, insensitive, insulting and venomous letter (March 16 issue) filled with misinformation. The recent proposed UFA contract is not based on the merits of fighting fires, although there are many. I don't know where Mr. Nichols has been, but the city is interested in productivity.
