'768' Dissident Tapped for Seat On Exec Board

By MEREDITH KOLODNER

The Executive Board of Local 768 of District Council 37 appointed Fitz Reid to fill the position of Executive Vice President on March 6, which was vacated last month when Joseph Cook resigned due to illness.

Mr. Reid ran unsuccessfully for local president in 2005, losing to Darryl Ramsey by two votes. Mr. Cook ran on Mr. Reid's slate, as did a majority of the board's nine members.

Board members are entitled to approximately $800 per month in the form of a stipend, which Mr. Reid said he would not accept, instead returning the money to the local.

Mr. Reid said that his main priorities while on the board will be to strengthen enforcement of the contract by pursuing grievances, support DC 37's international union's efforts to amass a political campaign war chest, increase the union's membership and challenge salary caps on Local 768 titles.
