Bonus for Elite Units

The Uniformed Firefighters' Association announced a tentative contract deal with the city March 2 that would give union members raises totaling 8.16 percent over two years and increase first-year salaries by $4,200, to $35,000. It would raise maximum salary to $68,475 as of Aug. 1, up from the current $63,309. The agreement would be retroactive to last Aug. 1 and would run until July 31, 2008. More...

A union activist last week accused the media of unfairly attacking the new Public Health Sanitarian who inspected the Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell Feb. 22 found to be infested with rats. The Parks Department is testing for hundreds of Lifeguard jobs available at city beaches and pools this summer. The city plans to recruit and train 1,200 Lifeguards in time for the summer season, which begins Memorial Day weekend. Many of the positions will be filled with returning personnel, but the city is still looking to hire approximately 400 new Lifeguards. More...
