By HOWARD MEGDAL

Though he's been with the Department of Environmental Protection for 40 years, Administrative Engineer Michael Sherard has no plans to give up his work just yet.

40 YEARS AND COUNTING: Administrative Engineer Michael Sherard was honored for his four-decade-long tenure at the Department of Environmental Protection's Employee Recognition Day Nov. 8. Mr. Sherard was so dedicated to his job, he returned to work less than 96 hours after returning home from a two-year stint in the army.

"I'll stay on for at least another year or so," he said at DEP Employee Recognition Day Nov. 8. "I just like what I do."

'A Morale Booster'

It was a sentiment shared by many at the event, which honored scores of long-serving employees at District Council 37 headquarters.

"It's a great thing for my members," said DC 37 Local 375 President Claude Fort. "These are hardworking people, and recognizing them is a big morale booster."

Mr. Sherard, who said he started his career "at the bottom, as a junior draftsman," took so much pleasure in his work that upon returning from the Army in May 1967, he hit the ground running.

"I came back on a Thursday," he said, "and went back to work on Monday."
