Snow Removal Jobs Offered In Sanitation The Sanitation Department has begun accepting applications for laborers to remove snow and ice from city step streets. The starting pay for the part-time laborers is $10 an hour, which increases to $15 an hour after the completion of 40 work hours. Sanitation Commissioner John J. Doherty called the workers "vital," noting that the city set a record for four consecutive years of more than 40 inches of accumulating snowfall. The laborers clear snow from bus stops, crosswalks, and step streets. Applicants must be over 18 years old, be eligible to work in the U.S., and capable of performing heavy labor, the DSNY said. They must have two small photos (1- 1/2") and two documents that prove identity and employment eligibility, such as a driver's license, passport, or Federal, state, or local identification with a photo.
