CORRECTION

A story in the Sept. 22 edition of this newspaper omitted a response from the City University of New York to charges by the Professional Staff Congress that it had violated the union's contract by making deals with individual Professors to teach and develop online courses. The article improperly said that a university spokesman "did not return multiple calls seeking comment."

The response stated, "CUNY Online Baccalaureate faculty instructors receive released time in accordance with collective-bargaining agreements. Separately, some faculty have developed online degree coursework, and they have negotiated to sell their copyrights to the University. The University has purchased the copyright to this coursework in accordance with Board of Trustee policies on the use of intellectual property. Faculty intellectual property is not covered by collective-bargaining agreements."
